How it works

  1. Pick your country. The preset sets your currency and tax; both stay editable. If the price you charged already included tax, set the rate to 0.
  2. Record the payment. Who paid, what for, the date, and the method - cash, bank transfer, POS, card, mobile money, or cheque. For a deposit, enter the amount actually received and the balance due appears automatically.
  3. Download the PDF. A print-ready A4 receipt with the amount spelled out in words - send it by email or WhatsApp, or print it for your records.

Receipt vs invoice - which one do you need?

The short answer: an invoice asks for money, a receipt proves you received it. A spare-parts dealer in Lagos sends an invoice for ₦215,000 of engine parts; when the transfer lands, she issues a receipt for ₦215,000 marked PAID. Same transaction, two documents, issued at different moments.

Receipt Generator FAQ

Is this receipt generator really free?

Yes - completely free, with no sign-up and no limit on how many receipts you create. The receipt is generated entirely in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded or stored.

What should a payment receipt include?

Your business name and contact details, the payer's name, a unique receipt number, the payment date and method (cash, bank transfer, POS, mobile money), a description of what was paid for, the amount received - ideally in figures and in words - and any balance still owed.

What's the difference between a receipt and an invoice?

An invoice asks for payment: it's issued before money changes hands and states what is owed and when it's due. A receipt confirms payment: it's issued after money is received and states what was paid, how, and on what date. If your customer still owes you, send an invoice; once they've paid, issue a receipt.

Can I issue a receipt for a part payment or deposit?

Yes. Enter the amount actually received and the receipt shows a PART PAYMENT badge with the balance due, so both sides have a clear record. Leave the amount field empty and it defaults to paid in full.

Does it show the amount in words?

Yes - the PDF spells out the amount received in words (for example, Two Hundred Fifteen Thousand Naira Only), which many banks, schools, and auditors expect on an official receipt.

What's the difference between this and a Growpins Ledger account?

This tool creates one-off PDF receipts. A free Growpins Ledger account numbers receipts automatically, links them to the invoice they pay off, remembers your clients, and rolls every payment into bookkeeping, P&L, and balance-sheet reports you can download for your accountant.

Issuing receipts every week?

A free Growpins Ledger account numbers your receipts automatically, links each one to the invoice it pays off, and turns your payments into bookkeeping, P&L, and balance-sheet reports - built by the team behind Growpins, founded by Dokun Bamigboye.
